The Little Egg Harbor Township municipal building has been served with a federal grand jury subpoena earlier this week demanding documents related to the township’s hiring of the law firm of Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore, OCP has learned.
According to a source familiar with its contents, the subpoena served on Little Egg Harbor seeks legal bills and agreements from the law firm of Gilmore & Monahan, the firm of Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore, which has been appointed by the township’s majority-Republican township committee to provide legal representation. As previously reported, Gilmore’s tax situation, among other things, has been under investigation by the IRS, with other subpoenas previously being issued as reported here.
The federal investigation into Gilmore appears to be widening, as earlier today the Asbury Park Press reported that a similar federal subpoena was served on the County of Ocean seeking largely the same records.
On Wednesday night, OCP filed multiple OPRA requests to obtain copies of the subpoenas and will update as more details become available.
