Federal Grand Jury to Hear Gilmore Case Thursday
A federal grand jury will be meeting on Thursday February 16th at 9:30 am in Trenton to hear the evidence federal investigators have collected against Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore, according to copies of subpoenas from the case.
The grand jury proceedings follow the issuance of numerous subpoenas around Ocean County in regard to the chairman and the hiring of his law firm. The subpoenas follow the failure of both Gilmore and his law firm to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of federal taxes, among other things.
Grand jury proceedings, by their very nature are closed to the public. Only prosecutors are allowed to present evidence to the grand jury, who may vote to indict a “true bill” or not to indict, a “no bill.”
We’ll be following this closely.
