Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore borrowed $300,000 from an employee at the Ocean County Board of Elections for a mortgage on his office building, records obtained by POLITICO New Jersey’s Matt Friedman showed.

“The employee, Sally Kalksma, agreed to the short-term mortgage in September 2012, according the mortgage contract,” Friedman wrote. “It was to have been repaid by the firm Gilmore & Monahan in September 2015, but no document indicating whether it had been repaid could be found on the Ocean County Clerk’s website.”

Gilmore serves as that board’s chairman, and as previously reported, the board of elections was served with a federal grand jury subpoena earlier in March.
