TOMS RIVER – Newly uncovered email logs obtained in September via a public records request showed Toms River Mayor Tom Kelaher referencing a meeting with Ocean County GOP Chairman George Gilmore in a mid-February message stored on his township email account.
The email logs published in this article are a selection of what Toms River officials provided in response to an August 9th, 2017 request for public records filed by a reporter.
On September 15th, 2017, Toms River Clerk Allison Carlisle, who recently took over for retired longtime township clerk J. Mark Mutter, provided most of the email logs sought by Ocean County Politics.
According to the logs, which were provided in the form of a Microsoft Excel workbook, a message with the subject line “George Gilmore Meeting” was created on Mayor Kelaher’s Toms River Township email account on February 13th, 2017.
The email logs do not disclose the body of the email messages, which would presumably shed more light on what the meeting was about, but the message bodies can easily be obtained by way of additional Open Public Records Act requests.
It remains unclear why some of the portions of the provided email logs are missing the subject, sender and recipient fields. The rows of messages with missing fields all had unique timestamps, creating the impression that messages existed and were deleted. Clerk Carlisle did not indicate whether or not any redactions were made to the records in her correspondence to OCP.
We reached out to the Toms River clerk’s office for clarification with respect to the potential missing emails, and will update this article if we hear back.
