Stafford: White Drops Out of Mayoral Race to Run for Council

White's withdrawal letter

STAFFORD – Democrat candidate Brian C. White has dropped out of the race this week, according to a letter he sent to the county clerk’s office. Democrats have tapped BOE member Joe Mangino to be their new standard-bearer and White will instead seek a council seat.

White, a local attorney who last year unsuccessfully challenged longtime Republican state senator Chris Connors (R – Forked River) submitted a letter to the Ocean County Clerk’s Office on August 20th seeking to have his name removed from the ballot for this year’s mayoral race.

White is being replaced on the Democratic ticket by Joe Mangino, a Stafford school board member and Sandy recovery community organizer with the New Jersey Organizing Project. Mangino took to social media last night to announce his candidacy. Mangino’s announcement listed White as a member of the slate of Democratic council candidates running with him.

The Stafford race is shaping up to be one to follow this cycle, amid a primary upset that ousted the township’s Republican establishment.
