WASHINGTON – Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato is testifying this afternoon at a U.S. House of Representatives hearing on the impacts of the deadly opiate Fentanyl on Ocean County.
The public hearing will likely be Coronato’s swan song, as Governor Phil Murphy made moves to name Toms River attorney Bradley D. Billhimer as his replacement, OCP previously reported.
The hearing is being held by a committee chaired CD4 U.S. Representative Chris Smith, who chairs the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, Global Human Rights, and International Organizations.
The hearing is entitled “Tackling Fentanyl: The China Connection” and will explore how the drug is being illegally exported out of the country and making it to the U.S. Coronato, who has shaped his tenure in office with a focus on the opiate epidemic, is expected to speak on how the drug has specifically impacted shore-area communities in Ocean County.
