TOMS RIVER – Councilman Brian Kubiel, who is employed as the administrator of Fire District 1, has filed a lawsuit against the board of fire commissioners.

Court records reflect that the lawsuit was filed on September 21st, 2018. Details on the substance of the lawsuit’s allegations are still sketchy, as Ocean County Politics has not yet obtained a copy of the complaint.

A request under the state’s Open Public Records Act seeking a copy of the complaint filed on behalf of Kubiel was sent to the fire district and we are currently awaiting a response.

You can follow along on the status of the public records request at the OPRAmachine statewide freedom of information website here.

We’ll have more information about Kubiel’s lawsuit once we obtain a copy of the complaint.

Fire Commissioner Craig Ambrosio, a township employee and local Republican has been named as a defendant as well as the District 1 Board of Fire Commissioners.

The state’s court database showed that Kubiel is being represented by the law firm of Plosia Cohen, which specializes in representing management in labor law disputes, while the defendants are being represented by the La Corte Bundy firm of Union.

The first hearing in the case is scheduled for October 24th, 2018, according to state superior court records.
